[travel review] Burning Man at Black Rock desert, Aug 27- Sep 2

They say to truly describe Burning Man, you have to be there. But, imagine a world where you must subsist on trading jewels, stories and face paint for things like toilet paper, food and water. Every year 48,000 people flock to Black Rock Desert for one week of "self expression." Part hippie commune, part art installation, participants are encouraged to rely on a gift economy instead of using cash. The city planning experiment has no rules other than to love nature and one another. You may encounter nudity or drugs at the event (shocker). Though this may sound more lovey dovey than any sober person can handle, the temporary structures and visionary art are impressive feats.

Tickets are $300 and can be purchased online until 8/27 or at the box office until 9/2. If it's your first time, think of it as camping: bring a sleeping bag and prepare to wear the same outfit for days. Also, you must bring your own water, as the festival does not provide any.
